When trying for doppelgänger, does it take into account all of the times you’ve tried? I feel like it’s a never ending cycle, I’ve wasted so much on trying to get the pet, and would love for someone with more insight to explain how it works.

No sadly I doubt the code would save attempts. Its just a 5% chance per roll.

 

So each time you attempt it, the code 'rolls a die' and if it lands on the 5% chance you get it.

Indeed. Every sacrifice is a fresh roll, and odds don't stack up. It's pure RNG, and of course, no drop rate or double drop apply to the magic chest.
