[2021] Starter Guide [Trained and PKer] [Text-only]

Recommended Posts

The beginning:

When you first log in, you'll need to set an account pin. Afterwards, be sure to click on the flashing arrows to view a short tutorial of the game. This will consist of UIs such as the Money Making teleport in your spellbook (often called Dailies by players), the Achievement Diary, and the Knowledge base (containing information and small guides such as item spawning, commands, Donator rank benefits, and so forth) as well as the Item guide (this contains information on certain items in the game, such as the best-in-slot equipment for PvP and PvM, Blood fountain weapons, Blood slayer equipment, etc.). Afterwards, you'll open your Starter Goodie Bag. You can choose either a pair of Beginner Dragon Claws (Untradable, Autokeep, Degradable) or a Beginner Armadyl Godsword (Untradable, Autokeep, Degradable). The Armadyl Godsword is, in most cases, the better option. Next, you have a Referral box. You'll get some bonus rewards by completing the box's dialogue. We'll worry about the Beginner Casket later, so you can bank that for now.

The first steps:

To begin with, regardless of game mode, you'll want to go to your spellbook and click the Money Making teleport (the highlighted icon with the pile of coins). You'll want to find the Thieving activity under the Easy tab, Track it, and teleport to it. This will get you some starting money, as well as Blood money. In some cases, you can even earn some event tokens depending on the current event. This is where the divide in game modes come into play.

Afterwards [Trained account]

After you've gained some money from your Thieving Daily, you'll want to use that money at the Trading Post (the cluster of deposit boxes on the Northwest wall of Edgeville bank) to buy bones to level up your Prayer. You can get a high level immediately, but all that's necessary for now is 43. You will want Protect from Melee.

Afterwards [PKer account]

After you've gained some money from your Thieving Daily, you'll want to use that money to buy some equipment to complete other Dailies. You'll use the command [::shops] to get to the Edgeville store to buy some items. You will look for the Al-Kharid citizen with the title "Coin shop." You will trade him and buy a Staff of the Dead, Armadyl Crossbow, and Book of Law.

Continuing [Trained account/PKer account]

Once you've completed your starting tasks, you'll want to spawn some Magic and Melee equipment.

You'll use the Magic equipment to complete five Barrows runs (required to unlock voting, complete the Barrows Achievements, as well as possibly obtain Dharok pieces and an Amulet of the Damned, which you can either sell or use). You will use all Protection prayers for this bossing minigame.

You'll use the Melee equipment to complete your Undead PKer Daily (required to unlock voting, and sometimes drop items such as Bandos armour, Dragon defenders, rings, Special restores, Chaotic mystery boxes, Goodie bags, and a few other items). You will use Protect from Melee here.

[Wilderness] Brutal Dragons

Next, you'll want to enter the Wilderness and kill at least five Brutal green dragons to unlock Voting. This shouldn't be particularly difficult, as Antifire potions fully protect you from Dragonfire attacks. As this is in the Wilderness, DO NOT take any items you are willing to lose. Few people attack people at Brutal green dragons, but it's a possibility. Keeps your wits about you while you're here.

Voting and progression choice

Now that you've unlocked voting, you can progress in one of two ways. You can either build your way through PvM or PvP. PvP is very difficult considering the amount of customs, so you can always start with the Beginner Zone Daily for some practice. PvP is self-explanatory. Gear up, enter the Wilderness, and fight. PvM is the recommended way to start the game, however, as it will give you a steady income to use for PvP later in the game.

PvM progression route

The recommended route towards building your account will consist of mostly doing PvM achievements and gearing up for Raids (Chambers of Xeric and Theatre of Blood). The first thing you'll want to start off by doing is building for Ranged.

The recommended order for building Ranged equipment is as follows: Toxic Blowpipe (usually obtainable by selling your Undead PKers Treasure Casket at the end of your Daily), Swift gloves (give a chance to fire a second projectile whenever you attack), and the Slayer helmet (i) (Grants a +25% DMG bonus vs AI. This applies to Slayer monsters, Blood revenants, Battle mages, and even Bosses themselves). Afterwards, I would recommend saving up for a Yoshi pet (automatically banks items for you, except in a few instances such as the Mage Arena) and a Twisted bow. You can then buy Kharazi armour and an Amulet of Anguish to finish off your starting equipment. You can then focus on obtaining the coveted Fused Slayer Helmet (protects against poison, venom, and Dragonfire. Better stats than a coloured Slayer helm, and includes a Drop Rate bonus).

Raids [Chambers of Xeric]

The Chambers of Xeric have no requirements to access, although there are a few recommendations to consider before you do start. The most common starting item for beginning Chambers of Xeric is a Toxic Staff of the Dead. Even if you don't deal damage to an enemy, you are able to envenom them, and the venom will chip away at them even if they're immune to your Magic attacks. If you don't have a Fused Slayer Helmet, you'll be required to bring an Antifire and Anti-venom for Olm. A Twisted bow is highly recommend when you're first starting to raid, although it's completely possible to complete the Chambers of Xeric with a blowpipe. You will need some form of Melee attack for Tekton. Tekton is weak to crush, so many players tend to bring a Statius' Warhammer or Sarachnis' Cudgel. You will also require a pickaxe of any type for Tekton, although iron ones spawn on the ground during the phase shift. Two personal recommendations from me are a Chaos cloak or Blood cape (these give a chance to heal and restore your Prayer after a kill. Since you most likely won't be outdamaging your allies when you're first starting out, you can bring anything else if you want) and a Rune pouch (this will give you more inventory space for Saradomin brews, which you'll be chugging consistently at Olm for some time. Since you'll be using Ranged, I recommend using the Ancient Curses for Leeches to reduce the opponents' defenses to assist your allies where your damage lacks. A few decent items to start with is a Brimstone ring (+4 to all offensive styles, and a 1/3 chance to ignore an opponent's Magic defense) and the Devout boots (Smite and Soul Split have a 33% to restore prayer for a fraction of the damage you dealt to an opponent).

At the end of the Chambers of Xeric, everybody receives loot, regardless of how many times you died or how little damage you dealt. The loot will not be amazing at the beginning, but it does build up over time. Some of the rewards you can get for defeating Olm include Blood money, which can be used to buy Blood perks, items in the Blood pool coin store, and various items from the ghost [at ::shops] titled "Blood shop." Other rewards include Point Mystery Boxes, which can be used to gain Slayer points, small amounts of Blood money, Pure points, and other various rewards. You can also obtain PvP Mystery boxes, which contain various Ancient Warriors' equipment (Vesta's, Statius, and Morrigan's). I recommend selling these at the beginning, and then later on using them to obtain Blood shards for a few specific items.

It is unlikely that you'll land any unique rewards, but those would include items such as the Relic of Xeric (gives one random Chambers of Xeric pet upon use), the Xerician pendant (increases Drop Rate), the Twisted bow, the Ancestral set, the Kodai wand, and the Elder maul.

Ending notes:

I decided to make this guide solely for the reason of why not. There have been quite a few new players recently, and I figured that instead of repeating myself constantly in Help, I would create a written reference for people to not only use immediately, but as a written reference for people to follow along with later on in case they forget. You can play SpawnPK however you want, but this is just an outline for the best possible start I've personally found when playing multiple different accounts.
