The law is above a president. Law can be both legit and corrupt so can a owner be. Both have the power to get rid of you if wished aswell, and both can garuantee freedom aswell. The president is really just an executive, CEO or whatever.

In some political systems the president is only a representator of the state e.g germany above the president you have the chancellor.
